Sheku Kanae-Mason (Sheku), a 19-year-old young cellist who has been making headlines around the world for her upcoming performance at the Royal Wedding on May 19, 2018, is urgently releasing her debut album in Japan! The album features a cello arrangement of reggae legend Bob Marley’s hit “No Woman, No Cry” (Sheku’s own cello arrangement), Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1, which won the BBC Young Musicians Competition 2016, the competition that led to his debut, as well as a selection of his own compositions. The concerto is a work of all genres, including Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1, which won the BBC Young Musicians Competition 2016, the piece that led to his debut, the famous bible song “Bird Song” arranged by cello god Pablo Casals, and “Hallelujah” by world-famous singer Leonard Cohen, showcasing Shek’s unfathomable musicality and charm. Sheku’s cello concerto by Shostakovich is performed by a remarkable young female conductor, Milga Grazinite-Tyra (b. 1986) from Lithuania, who gives a lively performance of the masterpiece by the greatest composer of the 20th century.
