For about 200 years from the late 16th to the first half of the 18th century, the small city of Cremona in northern Italy produced many “masterpieces” by such outstanding string instrument makers as Amati, Stradivari, and Guarneri. The years around 1716 were the most productive period for Stradivari, and some of the instruments produced during this period are still ranked among the “best” in the 21st century. The “Bertier” featured in this album is one of 14 instruments produced in 1716, and is a stunning instrument with a beautiful marble pattern, understated flame streaks on the bottom plate, and a harmonious overall form. This luxury boxed set includes a CD with performances of works by Pavel Berman from different compositional periods (from Bach to Ysaye), a detailed booklet (in Japanese) with s of the instruments including detailed color photos, and a poster with a printed full-size photo of the instruments.Naxos Japan
