[Encore Press: Mercury Living Presents 50] Composed to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the first Swedish immigration to the United States, Symphony No. 3 expresses the spirit of the pioneers. Koussevitzky is said to have loved this piece and performed it in many places. The program includes “Elegy” and the choral piece “Ramento to Beowulf,” both composed in memory of the death of the conductor, who was a close friend of Hanson’s. Performed by the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra, which includes professors from the Eastman School of Music, and conducted by the composer Hanson himself. Rubidium clock cutting.
