Born in the Czech Republic, Reicha (Leja) was active in Germany and France. He is known to have known Beethoven, who was born in the same year, as a boy and to have had a lifelong friendship. While his works for wind instruments influenced by the Mannheim School are well known, his piano works with various elaborations are little known. This album features two of his works: the baroque-style “Six Fugues,” which was intended to master compositional techniques, and the “57 Variations and Rondo,” which demonstrates an astonishing variety of variation techniques. You can enjoy the unknown Reichert.Naxos Japan
