This is the first release of the “Sony Classical Masterpieces Collection 1000”. This is a collection of Haydn’s late sonatas from the last years of Glenn Gould’s life. Gould’s goal was to record all of Haydn’s sonatas, and from 1980 to 1981, he took advantage of the technological advancement of “digital recording” to record the music. The precisely controlled, lucid fingering reveals hidden polyphony, and the performances are full of even a kind of humor.
