Stanley Black, the king of British easy listening and mood music, is a VIP among VIPs who was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1985, along with Mantovani and Frank Chacksfield. His ornate orchestral sound with a large string ensemble is one of his greatest attractions, but the relatively small “Stanley Black, Piano and Latin Rhythms” (hereafter referred to as “Latin Rhythms”), which includes percussion, offers a more edgy sound image. This album is the latter unit’s lighthearted interpretation of Japanese compositions. Nippon no Western Music Series] All Days Records has started a new series of reissues of albums by Western artists with close ties to Japan, including special editions of Japanese songs covered by foreign musicians and live recordings of their performances in Japan.
