Shawn Rudiman returns to Pittsburgh Tracks with Reality in Quotes, his first full-length album since 2021. A continuous, front-to-back statement, it reflects on the fluid nature of perception and the idea that reality itself is shaped by individual thought. “We make our own realities from moment to moment,” says Rudiman, who sees the title phrase as a reminder that what we call ‘real’ is always subjective.
Built with his signature analog hardware and decades of experience in Pittsburgh’s underground techno scene, the album delivers a deeply personal, reflective sound. Reality in Quotes acknowledges the community behind it, with thanks to friends, collaborators and supporters from across his 27-year career. “It’s humbling to still be able to make music and play out,” he adds. “Reality is the only word in the language that should always be used in quotes.”
