Description
Texas-based singer / producer / multi-instrumentalist Riya Mahesh aka Quiet Light makes songs that recall ‘dream sequences’. Her label debut, ‘Blue Angel Sparkling Silver II’, is a self-produced mixtape / snapshot of twilight hours in the Texas Summer heat. A classically trained prom queen turned medical school student who draws as much inspiration from Shania Twain and Imogen Heap as Angelo Badalamenti and Harold Budd, she’s also performed with Cameron Winter, Erika de Casier, Nilufer Yanya and Chanel Beads.
Quiet Light’s Lynchian liminal electropop sounds both frozen in time and built to withstand its weathering, and on mixtape ‘Blue Angel Sparkling Silver II’ she proves she’s a generational voice that’s here to stay.
Mahesh’s list of inspirations – from Shania Twain to Harold Budd to Imogen Heap – is nearly as eclectic and expansive as her classical pedigree: she studied piano, opera and even medieval choir all before graduating high school. Her 2020 self-titled debut EP, ‘Quiet Light’, foregrounded a virtuosic run of independent, self-produced records, including 2024’s ‘Going Nowhere’ and 2025’s ‘Pure Hearts’. She’s earned acclaim from The FADER, The Creative Independent and The Austin Chronicle, and appeared on Iggy Pop’s long-running BBC Radio 6 show.
