Description
Acclaimed Scottish composer Craig Armstrong presents Pacific, a three-movement work for piano, cello, and electronics released via CMA Records. Originally commissioned for Christian Kellersman and Alexander Szlovák’s Berlin Confidential concert series, Pacific was premiered at Berlin’s historic Meistersaal in March 2025, performed by Armstrong alongside cellist Lena Angelina von Almen and producer Guy Sternberg.
Recorded shortly after at Lowswing Studios in Kreuzberg, the album captures the trio’s sensitive interplay between acoustic and electronic sound — an approach that has long defined Armstrong’s work. Across its three movements, Pacific unfolds from elegy to resolution: opening with reflective piano motifs, shifting through arrhythmic passages that mirror instability, and closing with quiet strength and release.
Armstrong describes the piece as “an elegy dedicated to the many suffering in today’s conflicts, written in the hope that peace will prevail.” Both von Almen and Sternberg contributed deeply to the composition’s shape, developing its texture and emotional core in close collaboration with Armstrong.
