Description
Parliament’s Osmium Deluxe collects the first recordings credited to the future P-Funk powerhouse. Produced by Ruth Copeland, these sessions map out a restless, genre-hopping sound that pulls together gospel, soul, funk, rock and even flashes of country, moving from heavy electric fuzz to acoustic calm and stranger flourishes besides.
Originally issued as Osmium and later reappearing under alternate titles including Rhenium and First Thangs, the material has long circulated in varying forms, often with stray singles and outtakes appended. Osmium Deluxe brings everything from that fertile early period into one place across two LPs: the complete album, standalone single sides, unreleased tracks, demos and loose jams.
Raw, exploratory and bursting with ideas, these recordings document the moment before the full P-Funk vision crystallised into classics like Maggot Brain, Mothership Connection and One Nation Under a Groove. A crucial chapter in the story of one of funk’s most inventive collectives.
