The Matthias Strings, a group of top players of the NHK Symphony Orchestra (vn. Machia Saito, Va. Gentaro Sakaguchi, Vc. Ayumi Kuwata), recorded the popular “Golteberg Variations (String Trio version),” arranged by Sitkovetski. The unique sound of the strings, which is different from the keyboard expression, and the well-crafted ensemble of the best players vividly illuminate the other face of the work. (C)RS
