This is the first release in the “Sony Classical Masterpieces Collection 1000. In 1959, Leonard Bernstein led the New York Philharmonic to Moscow to perform Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5. The episode that Shostakovich, who was in attendance at the end of the performance, praised the performance to great acclaim is well known. This is a session recording made at Boston’s Symphony Hall immediately after the triumphant return performance.
