Following “Telemann: 12 Metodisches Sonaten vol. 1 & 2” (FOCD9614, 9617), which won the 2014 Record Academy Award in the “Music History” category, Koji Esaki’s long-awaited new album is now available! Few chamber works by J.S. Bach (1685-1750) have survived to this day, especially for wind instruments, of which only a flute piece is known to exist. From among these few chamber pieces, Esaki recorded the Trio Sonata (BWV 1039) for two flutes and basso continuo, which was later reworked by Bach himself into the Sonata No. 1 for viola da gamba (BWV 1027). In addition, Esaki has arranged Sonatas Nos. 2 and 3 for viola da gamba (BWV1028, 1029) in trio sonata form and the Flute Sonata (BWV1032) in recorder sonata form, supplementing the missing parts. These are Bach’s sonatas revived in the present age by an exceptional talent. A masterpiece is born.
