A highly enjoyable album of Gershwin’s famous melodies, made into saxophone solos and quartets that are also compatible with their sound, has been remastered and revived to mark the end of the anniversary year. The album features the well-established and precise ensemble of the pioneering saxophone quartet “Almo,” as well as solos in which Gershwin switches between soprano and alto, and the various expressions of Gershwin are interesting. Included is a recording rare and popular piece, the quartet “Porgy and Bess” arranged by Bill Holcomb.
