This is Naoko Kawamura’s sixth solo album for RCA, and the first result of her “Beethoven Project,” in which she is currently engaged in a two-year project to perform a series of 14 piano sonatas in four locations throughout Japan. In addition to the two well-known sonatas, “Pathetique” and “Moonlight,” the album includes two masterpieces of the early sonatas: the lively No. 4, a favorite of Michelangeli, and No. 7, with its profound adagio. As an album that combines high popularity and rich content, it will inevitably be a major talking point in 2019, the pre-Beethoven anniversary year.
