Venice in 1629 was the scene of several innovations in music history. Schütz had made a second visit to Venice the previous year and studied with Monteverdi. He published the first collection of Sinfonia Sacra. Marini also established the early Baroque style at this time, bringing technical innovations to violin playing. Castello published his first volume of “Modern Sonatas Concertate” in the same year, which was also highly acclaimed for its innovative violin playing method and had a great influence on later composers, as it was reprinted again and again even after his death. The Gonzaga Band will perform these fascinating works. The Gonzaga Band is a period instrument ensemble founded by Jamie Savant in 1977. The group’s name, “Gonzaga,” is the name of a famous family in Mantova whom Monteverdi served. The group specializes in works from this period.Naxos Japan
