[Encore Press: Mercury Living Presence 50] Giovanni Gabrieli was the organist of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice with his uncle Andrea and established the concerto style of the Venetian school of music, which bridged the Renaissance to the Baroque period. This album features his sonatas and canzonas for wind band. Fennell, who founded the Eastman Wind Ensemble in 1952, has contributed greatly to the popularization of wind ensemble music and established a new tradition in wind instruments.
