EBI are a cartridge manufacturer in India and chief engineer Tariq Shafeeque has recently developed a quite beautiful sounding moving coil cartridge.
About EBI :
The company is just over 10yrs old and during these ten years of research and development, they have developed turntables, wooden and carbon tonearms and a range of cartridges.
EBI Audio is the first ever and only company in India to produce Hi-end Moving coil phono cartridges.
These cartridges are individually hand made by very dedicated and skilled engineers and offer unprecedented price / performancelevels when competing against any ultra hi-end cartridges.
After years and years of fine tuning, they have now brought to market a quite beautiful sounding moving coil cartridge – the Khumar.
The Khumar is the perfect example of wholly natural sounding cartridge with extreme natural tonality.

Musically the “Khumar” is a cartridge tour-de-force , and exhibits a mouth watering array of sonic abilities :
1) Very expressive highs, and conveyed with a real sense of fluidity and silkiness.
2) Extended and tight lows – supremely gripped and controlled.
3) Very low impedance.
4) Hugely impressive channel separation of more than 32db – this allows for a truly holographic presentation.
5) Hand crafted Black Ebony wooden shell :
The unique new body is made from aged ebony wood, which is not only visually stunning, but also deeply influences the cartridge’s sonic character.
Ebony is an extremely dense and richly toned wood; when combined with the Khumar platform the musical result is a quite extraordinary.
6) Employing a bespoke Shibata Stylus on a unique boron cantilever from Namiki, Japan.
