Born in Tiflis, Republic of Georgia, due to the war, Abramyan (1923-1986) worked in an airplane factory as a young man and later studied piano at the Tbilisi Conservatory with Sergey Balhudaryan and composition with Anna Tulashvili. After graduating from the conservatory, he further studied composition at the Armenian Cultural Institute in Moscow, where he devoted himself to the study of Armenian folk music and its transmission. The “24 Preludes,” which many composers have attempted to do, were appealing to Abramyan, and he describes them as wonderful works that weave Armenian melodies into rich colors and unique structures. Listen to the freedom of the music, which is not bound by formality, with its Romantic-style harmonies and sometimes jazz-like atmosphere.Naxos Japan
