[The Art of Claudio Arrau] Claudio Arrau (1903-1991) was a Chilean pianist active mainly in the United States. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of his death, this is an encore pressing of the “The Art of Claudio Arrau” series released in 2011. The fundamental principle of Arrau’s art was to “eliminate all pretense and focus solely on the inner reality of the work,” and even in Chopin, the performances are distinctly different from the salon-style glamour of Chopin. In the “Ballade” and “Scherzo,” too, the performance is a masterful one, full of deep emotion and full of dignity. This is a Japan-only project. Recorded in Germany in April 1984 (digital recording)
