XA8250 MKII is a dual mono design, pure Class A amplifier pre-amplifier with a separate dual-channel architecture which of course partners beautifully the XA8800MNE and MNU, but has been tested at length with numerous high end power amplifiers, and has shown itself to be a quite sublime match, releasing the full untapped potential of the amps in question.
The special input stage adopts the TOSHIBA HiFi Dynatrons A970/C2240 to promote the upmost symmetry and integrity of the signal path, which in turn is perfectly synergistic with the ‘double-difference’ amplifier circuit design – this topology allows the XA8250 MKII to punch significantly above it’s weight.
This design architecture also connects one resistor in serial with the emitter of each dynatrons – this circuit applies a current ‘negative feedback’, which in turn decreases open-loop distortion, and vastly improves the linear dynamic range – the result is astonishing musicality and an enthralling soundstage.
The voltage amplifier stage also adopts the complementary push-pull amplifier circuit design and again consists of the world class A970/C2240. The signals are then directly transferred to the output stage giving ‘shortest path’ advantages and therefore greater signal integrity.
The output stage adopts the pure Class A push-pull arrangement, with the output model consisting of N-type and P-type JFETs – this has two huge advantages of increasing dynamic range and decreasing output impedance – this again ensures the match between the pre-amplifier and other power amplifiers is world class.
The left and right channel power supplies are especially designed for the task and ensure these are separate and isolated. The left and right channel circuits are geographically located at opposite ends of the chassis with the power supply lying directly in the centre, this ensures zero distortion and this engineers in the lowest possible noise parameters. There is also a separate and bespokely designed 40W high-quality E-type transformer with a clever stainless steel shield cover to supply power to each channel. This 100% avoids any magnetic interference to the signal path. Power supply filters and decoupling designs are provided by Marcom and American Military-Grade electrolytic capacitors – optimized grounding is also used, to ensure very high signal to noise ratio’s.
In addition, the XA8250 MKII provides separate balanced input and output terminals for left and right channels, this is also a fully balanced design, so ensures the very best performance levels.
The XA8250 MKII is a full Class A pre-amplifier and uses JFET transistors at its heart – this results in a tone which is both natural and transparent.
The sound of the XA8250 MKII is wonderfully balanced in the entire whole frequency spectrum: exquisite at the high frequency, organic in the medium frequencies, and deep and controlled in the LF’s.
